The Schellenberger Report: A reasoned look at 40 years of unreasonable policies.

Report of the Investigation Commission aiming to establish the reasons for the loss of sovereignty and energy independence in France.

The Investigation Commission was chaired by Raphaël Schellenberger; the rapporteur was Antoine Armand.

“The dozens of hours of hearings have shown quite forcefully the disregard for science… Because it is indeed the whole sector that has suffered from what has been called ‘shameful nuclear energy’, even though it conscientiously meets our daily electricity needs without which our life would be quite different. The investigation commission has therefore, in this respect, allowed some experts, unions, and other professionals to finally be heard and listened to.”

Some excerpts from the report:

  • How did we come to transform what was a French success, with an unparalleled level of electricity export in Europe and world-class companies in oil and gas, into a ‘headless duck’
  • This report primarily narrates how this success gradually led to the comfort of abundance making us forget the strategic nature of the mother of all industries: energy. This report tells how the anti-nuclear dogma of political ecology has gradually become the key to interpreting energy choices rather than sovereignty and the urgency of decarbonization.
  • Anti-nuclear action has ceaselessly mobilized on various sites erected as symbols, which are nevertheless each intended to be essential links in an industry conceived as a whole.
